Brand new atelier

What to write, so many things happened since last time. Everytime I think,"oh that's what I need to write about, but life goes so fast, the next thing is happened. So now I hope to find some easy time and start working in my brand new atelier.
After renting away our space, for many years, our studio is ours again. We did a lot of cleaning painting the walls and now since one week we are open three days a week to the public.

We had a nice opening day and three of my friends from KC61 are here in the gallery showing art until end of May.

Me, myself just show some necklages, recycled handbags and textile art, like my small pictures from our city Roermond and Landscapes.
I'm also painting on silk and sewing in the shop as I am working on large textile art pieces for a show in September. Our citygarden is sooo very beautiful, all the rhodondendrons and azalea's are in full bloom and the roses spread their enchanting fragance. This is a wonderful spring!!

Stitch by stitch

This cloth will be like a never ending story. I will call it bird(th)s, like new born, or birds, at least with a few wings. Wings that I would like to have myself. Like angels which I collect. I started this cloth many many years ago, at time I worked in my shop with silks and silkpaintings.

This one is painted on a beautiful silk crepe satin, but when it was painted, I did not like it so much and did not know what to do with it, so I put a solft wool lining underneath and machine stich in the ditch so to say on the gutta lines. That was not  good enough. Now its handstitching a lot and when I am sitting on the couch watching tv. I take this cloth on my lap and do a few stitches, so I believe it gets better every day. There is no rush to finish it. Just see what happens and when I feel that it is done! It could be within a month, or even a year, but some day I will love it.!

Colette Berends, textile artist

 I'm a big collector of textile magazins and the first thing I do when I come to the usa is going to one of the great bookstores there and see what is new. I love Quilting Arts or Haut Bags. these are magazins which I can not get here. There are many great textileartist around the world and I would love to meet some. In may I go to a big show of OEQC that is the Open European Quilt Championships. This year it will be from 3 - 5 of may and there will be a show-of-the-art work from Colette Berends who died last year but worked more than 20 years as a textielartist. She was born as a boy and used to work in clubs around Europe and so her work was mostly based on  theater, nightclubs and backstage scenes. Very beautiful, take a look at the websites because her work was really fantastic.

JESTER

Next week I will again act as a Jester, with LACHENDERWIES here in the Theater "De Oranjerie" in Roermond.

This will be the 4th time. It is really fun to do, I will explore the various "Buurrereedners" to accompany the scene. This show is organized by the "Sjtadsvastelaovesvereniging D'n UUL".

Here is a picture of my costume, I handpainted the silk and has several times served as a stage costume.

Every year I make the collar a little nicer, some more Swarovsky and sequines. I get each year a different makeup, that is for me a surprise what this year is going to be. There are 3 performances. I am very much looking forward to that show.

My New Studio

It took a long time, before we had our non-paying tenants out of the house. Not only dit it cost us a lot of money, but most of all a lot of nerves. But hey it's all over and everything looks very different. I'm a little afraid to get other tenants in our home, so we took a decision:

Big Bang (SOLD)

Thanks to my dear husband, who helps me to get everything done. I would like to create a place where people like to come together and be creatieve. Many of my readers know, that I had an own Gallery, but I like to go to different galleries with my Artwork, and now my gallery is a Wig Shop and is called "Wig it"

The attic must be cleaned

the Sofa I had refurbished my self which took 2 days, but it looks like new again.

 Anyway I think for 1 or 2 weeks more we will be busy. I have a wet werkspace too, which is important for my Silkpainting. Long time ago I did silkpainting and I'm going back to do that again. Part of the painted silk I will use in artquilts. So wish me luck that everything works out.

Big challenge

Next month I have an exhibition of textile Art on the Golfcourse. I finished 8 nice pieces and thought that is enough, but I decided to make an other piece about 4 times the size of the other ones. It is a very complicated one. Many small details. Today I started and worked  8 hours. Now that I have my studio back again, at least I have plenty of room to trow all my scraps of fabric around to find the right colours and thickness. I started with the sky, a scrap from handpainted crepe silk. The desigh is from a small picture and I have made a scetch in the size I need.

I have to build my work from the top down to not get lost, also I must plan everything carefully and take the background first. Otherwise I can not sew it anymore. Anyway here are some more pictures.

The beginning is made

I must say that this time it is much more difficult for me to write everyday for the challenge then in April and I am not so sure if I can finish all the 31 post for this month. But I made the choice! I will keep You informed  about my progress. Tomorrow I will post a children story which I wrote.

Dat was de Kunstmarkt in Roermond "ART FESTIVAL"

So like promissed here are some pictures of the Art Festival in Roermond on the 12th of June.We were so lucky with this beautiful weather. A lot of people visited our stand. Many friends came by. Of course it is a lot of work first all the packing than unpacking  and decorating. I had some wide and large silk fabric so I used that on the table, it was 4 meter by 80 cm wide. I sold some silk scarves and a beautiful handpainted Glass vase

Een mooi plekje

Gelukkig kwamen er vele vrienden en bekenden voorbij.  Dus voor reclame was

het zeker goed om hier te staan. Ook was het voor een goed doel van Kiwanis

die verschillende projecten en vooral ook kinderen helpen.

Ik was toch blij ook wat verkocht te hebben. Het was een vermoeiende maar mooie dag.

Ik stond 6 uur op de benen plus het in en uitpakken 2 x, dat viel niet mee, vooral om dat Dieter mijn man niet zo goed ter been is. Hij krijgt volgende week een knie operatie.

Art festival

Soon I will be going to an Art festival in my hometown Roermond. It is at a lovely place called "De Voorstad" the place where I made my last textielart piece from. This is the first time that I will try this. Hopefully the weather is fine. Anyway I have to prepere my self to have everyting ready. So I collected all my Handpainted glass and silkscarves. Some crochet neclages and ofcourse my textielart from Roermond. I need a lot of fabric for decoration because my stand is 4 : 0.8 meter .
I have some baskets for transport. Today I have made a few new businesscards

mooi plekje

Op 12 juni 2011 ga ik met enige werken naar de kunstmarkt hier in Roermond "De Voorstad" een heel mooi plekje, je kunt het op mijn vorig bericht zien, want dat was het laatste textielartwerkje wat ik gemaakt heb. Ik ben me al aan het voorbereiden en heb handbeschilderd glas, zijden sjaals en natuurlijk mijn textiel werkjes al klaar staan om mee te nemen. Ik moet veel mee nemen, zoals spantouwtjes, knijpers, punaises, vele meters stof want de kraam die ik moet vol maken is 4 meter bij 0,80. Gelukkig heb ik nog veel materiaal. Alles gaat mee in manden. Vandaag heb ik vele visitenkaartjes gedrukt, want reclame maken is het belangrijkste.

Handpainted Fantasy Birds

Das passiert mir schon mal beim aufräumen ein schönes handbemahltes Seidentuch gefunden. Es ist auf ein Crepe Satin gemahlt. Ich wusste immer nicht genau was ich daraus machen wurden. Aber jetzt wo ich soviel mit textielart mache war es klar. Es soll noch ganz bestickt werden. Sowohl mit der Maschine als auch mit der Hand.

 This is a found object, by cleaning I found this handpainted picture a kind of birds fantasy, made on a silk crepe satin, I will stich it a lot and get it framed. Hopefully it will find a nice place on a wall sometimes.
